LAST LEAF DOWN is one of the pleasant surprises of 2014. Their sonority combines atmospheric rock with the melancholy of shoegaze, a genre that is returning little by little. Formed in 2003 as a kind of goth-rock band, they reformed in 2007 with new members and changed their sound in a more post-rock shoegazy direction. The single "The Theme" from their upcoming album "Fake Lights" is surely something to remember for years to come.

Outside the rain keeps falling
On foul soil, dying snow
Melting and transforming
to waters made of woe

Grey clouds brewing idle
the trees can not withstand
What is dead and gone by
is mixing with the sand...

...In the gutter of this spring

Inside the days remain
in a dim and lightless paint
and with the naked branches
the sun did not acquint

What is dead and gone by
and did not yet begin
is flowing to my hand
from the gutter of this spring
